The 13th international conference on Public Health among Greater Mekong Sub-Regional countries on "Enhancing transdisciplinary collaborations on Education and Research to tackle priority public health issues in the new Era" has following objectives:

  • To strengthen the relationship of Faculties of Public Health among the Southeast Asian countries and in the world;
  • To share research results in the field of Public Health as well as priority public health issues among greater Mekong Sub-Regional countries;
  • To search for feasible solutions to enhance international collaboration among Public Health Faculties in Mekong Sub-Region and a wider area of the Southeast Asian countries about training and research in Public Health.

An abstract should be in one paragraph with no more 350 words, describing the major aspects of the entire paper in a prescribed sequence that includes: 1) Introduction: The overall purpose of the study and the research problem(s) you investigated; 2) Objective(s): The outcomes that you aim to achieve by conducting research; 3) Method: The basic design of the study; 4) Results: Major findings or trends found as a result of your analysis; and, 5) Conclusions: a brief summary of your interpretations and conclusions.

Thua Thien Hue provincial Association of Public Health and Preventive Medicine in collaboration with the Faculty of Public Health and the Institute for Community Health Research of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University, will host a scientific conference on Public Health.  (updating...)

Participation of Institute for Community Health Research in PhD training counseling in Vientiane, Laos (September 18th -22nd , 2017)

The project ‘Scaling-up nutrition-sensitive agricultural initiatives in poor mountainous areas in Viet Nam and Lao PDR’ (NSA project), funded by WOTRO, Netherlands through Non-government organization Netherlands (MCNV) and Vrije University has invited the Institute for community health research (ICHR), Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, as a member of the project counseling committee. The scope of the project's evaluation, support and intervention includes the Dong Xuan mountainous district in Phu Yen province, Viet Nam and Nong district in Savannakhet province, Laos for the period 2017-2020.

The project will be conducted by five Ph.D students from Laos, Vietnam and the Netherlands under the guidance and coordination of Vrije University (VU), ICHR, Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry, National Institute of Public health, Laos National University (NIOPH) and field supported by MCNV and its partners in Phu Yen, Vietnam and Savannakhet, Laos.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan, lecturer of Nutrition Department of the Faculty of Public Health, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, is also involved in the NSA project to integrate this research into her Ph.D project in Korea.

To support capacity training for PhD students in developing proposals and conducting initial research under the approach of nutrition- agriculture (NSA), a training course on the topic ‘Mixed Methods Baseline Studies In Food and Nutrition Security Studies: The Cases of Nutrition Sensitive Agriculture (NSA)’ was organised in NIOPH, Vientiane with the attendance of PhD students from VU,\, the Netherlands, and Master of Public Health and Nutrition students from NIOPH. 

The five-day training course, took place on September 18-22, 2017 at NIOPH, focused on developing a research proposal instructed by Assoc. Vo Van Thang (ICHR), Prof. Sengchanh Kuonnavong (NIOPH) and Dr. Dirk Essink (VU). Based on previous MCNV interventions and NSA approaches in Vietnam and Lao PDR, the researches were designed to seek the scientific evidences of the NSA approach as a basis for further policy advocacy to expand NSA in addressing food security and nutrition.

 

Opening the workshop at NIOPH

The first part of the study will be conducted from November 2017 to June 2018. The results of this study will be designed as evidence-based intervention study and will be conducted during the period 2018-2019. It is expected that by the end of 2020, study results will be published in international scientific journals and documented as a basis for developing policies for policy managers.

Finishing successfully the workshop, the PhD students basically completed their research proposal and research tools. They are going to conduct the first part of the study (combine qualitative and quantitative method) in Laos and Vietnam at the end of 2017.
